Many people follow a vegan lifestyle all around the world. Every country offers its own cuisine, its own national favorites, and it’s wonderful to know that these favorites can be adapted for vegans.
Let’s take a journey together and discover some international vegan cuisine.
We’ll start with India. Spicy and fragrant, Indian food is generally enhanced both in look and taste by cumin, coriander and turmeric. Curry, garam masala, cardamom and cinnamon are equally popular flavor enhancers. The heat can be turned up on a dish to keep your tongue burning just a bit, or the flavor can be more subtle, but still satisfying and delicious.
Rice is offered in many dishes, including vegetable biryani, which is the Indian version of vegetable fried rice. The fragrant rice is cooked with vegetables such as cauliflower or green beans, along with carrots and a mix of aromatic spices such as nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, coriander. Sometimes chickpeas and/or pistachios are added to the dish, or a protein such as “chicken” or seitan. China offers an array of noodle dishes, dumplings and stir fry dishes, which are or can be easily adapted to a vegan cuisine. Meat is replaced with tofu products, or wheat gluten, and the flavor can still be subtle or bold in any Chinese vegan dish you try. Our Tea Smoked Duck is a delicacy with a subtle-bold flavor that will leave you smacking your lips in delight.
Butter Chicken is a popular Indian dish, and PlantCuts™ has its own version. With its mildly spiced creamy tomato sauce, and made from a blend of tomatoes, ginger, and coconut milk, this dish is packed with flavor. Although our version has no butter or chicken, it will still give you a taste of the real thing. Heat it up and serve the PlantCuts™ Butter Chicken on a bed of Basmati rice, with a medley of sautéed vegetables, such as squash and sweet potato, on the side.
Italy is always a favorite vegan food destination. Who could go wrong with pizza or pasta…in all its forms? Oh, and the wonderful gelato desserts and delicate cookies! But before dessert we need the main course. Or maybe start with a vegetable-based appetizer such as sautéed green beans with garlic and cherry tomatoes and tossed with pine nuts, or herbed garlic mushrooms topped with vegan shredded Mozzarella cheese and spooned onto toasted garlic bread? Sound good?
